WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

I set up my practice in 1999; during this time I have treated people from many different occupations and activities, such as sports persons including weight lifters and bodybuilders, office workers, hairdressers, students, pregnant women, and children.

I am trained in many different aspects of massage ranging from DEEP TISSUE, SPORTS & REMEDIAL MASSAGE which includes HOT & COLD STONES, BELLABACCI CUPS, SOFT TISSUE RELEASE, MUSCLE ENERGY, and NEUROMUSCULAR TECHNIQUES to RELAXING, STRESS RELIEF MASSAGE.

My treatments are tailored to each person’s specific needs, which can often change between appointments. I like to take time to fully assess what is going on in your life to adapt the session accordingly to give you the best possible outcome. I also like to take time after the session to allow you to adjust to the changes that will have taken place, it is quite common to feel a little light-headed for a short while.
On your first visit a confidential account of your medical history and current symptoms will be taken to assess the type of therapies or combination of therapies that will meet your needs, I will also ask you to sign a consent form. I take a holistic approach to my work; for instance, you may want a deep tissue massage but are feeling very stressed and unable to relax, therefore I would offer to start and finish the treatment with a longer time given to relaxation, which could include relaxing massage, foot massage or perhaps some Reiki which is a wonderful way to finish off the treatment.
The consultation usually takes about 20 minutes and a further 10 minutes will be needed for dressing after the treatment; I do not make a charge for this extra time

I work in a fully equipped and tranquil treatment room which encourages relaxation and helps you to unwind.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Massage and Reflexology are natural, but due to the increase in circulation that is achieved, there are certain situations when treatment should not be performed, these are called contraindications, which means that the treatment might be detrimental rather than beneficial. There are three types of contraindications:-

TOTAL – when treatment should not be given at all.
Such as:- Any infectious disease, recent operations or injuries, anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or fever, during the first three months of pregnancy.

MEDICAL – when treatment can only go ahead once permission has been given by a medical practitioner.
Such as:- high dose medication, any Cardiovascular disorder, Oedema, Osteoporosis, Cancer, Psychotic disorders, Epilepsy, Diabetes.

LOCAL – this is when treatment can be given providing the affected area is avoided.
Such as:- Cuts and bruises, Varicose veins, and Inflammation.

It is of the UTMOST IMPORTANCE that you inform your therapist of any conditions that you have or that may occur during your course of treatment.

ABOUT THE TREATMENTS
Before we commence with your treatment, I will explain what is going to happen and the effects that you can expect, after this you will be left alone to get changed and a towel will be provided to cover you. Men are expected to wear underwear at all times. You will be offered further coverings, a heated pad, and/or hot stones for added warmth to help warm muscles and for relaxation.

RESPONSES TO THE TREATMENT
Due to this type of therapy’s ability to stimulate the body’s healing power, there may be some sort of response as the body rids itself of toxins. A common response is an increase in the excretory systems as the body cleanses itself. Sometimes the body is unable to excrete the toxins quickly enough which can lead to nausea, headache, fatigue, and cold symptoms, this is often referred to as a ‘healing crisis’, however, these symptoms are temporary and will usually disappear within a few days. More often there is a deep feeling of relaxation after a treatment followed by an increase in energy and a feeling of well-being.
After a deep tissue massage, you may experience delayed onset muscle soreness which feels similar to what we experience after intense exercise. This is due to the knots having been broken down and the muscles being stretched but should quickly disappear. You must tell your therapist if the pressure is too deep as each person has a different pain threshold, if you are finding the massage uncomfortable then you will be unable to relax which will prevent you from getting the full benefit.

AFTERCARE
You may feel a little drowsy after your treatment which is quite normal, it is helpful to rest if you can to allow yourself time to adjust to the changes brought about by the treatment and to allow the body to cleanse itself.
Therefore for the rest of the day:-
Eat only light meals
Avoid caffeine and alcohol
Avoid strenuous exercise
Drink water to help flush out the toxins
Rest, if possible.
